Clifford J. Maddock

Clifford J. Maddock Sr. of Hampton Bays died on February 5, surrounded by his family. He was 90.

Mr. Maddock was born in Manhattan on June 11, 1922, the second son of Raymond and Ellen Maddock, and brother to Raymond, Gloria, Jacqueline and Gerard. He attended Andrew Jackson High School in St. Alban’s, Queens, where he met Eileen Fagan before heading off to serve in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was stationed aboard the USS Brooklyn in the Mediterranean and played saxophone in the Navy band. Upon honorable discharge from the Navy, he married Eileen and they settled in Franklin Square, where they raised their seven children together.

Mr. Maddock followed in his father’s footsteps spending 39 years as a sheet metal worker in Local Union No. 28. After retirement, he moved to Hampton Bays, where he served the East End community at Southampton Hospital for 15 years. His love of the sea was a common thread throughout his life, and he spent much of his free time boating, a love he would pass on to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was always an active and charitable man, survivors said, serving with the Knights of Columbus with the rank of 4th Degree Knight.

Predeceased by his wife, Eileen, and his oldest son, Clifford II, he is survived by six children, Susan and husband Roger Sullivan, Linda and husband Sal Noto, Steve Maddock and wife Dee, Eileen Maddock, Regina and husband Lee Coulman, and Daniel Maddock and wife Kathy Maddock; grandchildren: Clifford III, Timothy Maddock, Dannielle Maddock, Maureen Rohkamm and husband Peter, Roger Sullivan Jr., Kathleen Sullivan, Kevin Sullivan and wife Margaret, Keith Noto and wife Carrie, Patrick Maddock, Shannon Fergus and husband Chris, Brendan Maddock, Diana Nuelle, Bryce Nuelle, Daniel Maddock, Kyle Maddock and Kevin Coulman. He is also survived by great-grandchildren, Clifford IV and Marina Maddock, Kayla and Timothy Maddock Jr., Allison and Katie Sullivan, Brooke
and Samantha Rohkamm, Eoin and Finn Fergus and baby boy Sullivan due St. Patrick’s Day 2013.

Visiting was on Saturday and Sunday, February 9 and 10 at R.J. O’Shea Funeral Home in Hampton Bays. The Knights of Columbus conducted a service on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. A funeral Mass was held on Monday, February 11, at 10:30 a.m. at the Church of St. Rosalie in Hampton Bays. Interment was at Calverton National Cemetery.
