Coast Is Clear?

I had a thought after (a) checking in with a friend who lived on the same bay’s pond as my former co-op, (b) considering the behavior of my fellow Southampton co-op shareholders, (c) a visit from a couple who never visited the Southampton co-op in my 17 years, yet, from across the sound, thought I’d be happier with a Southampton getaway sooner than later and, finally, (d) a diligent local real estate broker. Here’s what I came up with:

Why would I want to live in a New York State town whose town and village judges don’t offer their opinions on President Donald Trump’s pardoning of January 6 Capitol rioters, those convicted of injuring 140 officers, an event that led to the death of five police officers — four by suicide — on January 6, 2021, who were defending our democracy on the pretext that they were patriots held hostage?

I happen to think that matter should be on the table. All jurists running for election in New York State should be required by the State Legislature to make clear where they stand on this matter, whether on their (re)election placards or in a public mailing or media.

In that way, I can calculate by October if the coast to return is clear.
