Colette “Cody” Gail Hoyle of Westhampton Beach died on March 29, surrounded by family and friends. She was 76.
Upon graduating from Westhampton Beach High School in 1966, she attended Hofstra University, where she graduated with a degree in business management. After graduation, she worked for what was then Central Suffolk Hospital for the next 32 years. Once she retired from the hospital, she worked for 18 years at the Westhampton Beach Country Club business office.
She gave a lifetime of community service to Westhampton Beach, which included becoming the first female firefighter in the Westhampton Beach Fire Department. She was elected in 1979, serving in many capacities — as a firefighter, Ladies Auxiliary, and advisor to the Junior Fire Department. She was voted as a lifetime honorary member of the fire department.
She was also a member of Westhampton Beach Ambulance for 15 years, as well a chartered member of East End Hospice, performing non-medical house calls and volunteering in the thrift shop. For more than 50 years, she was also a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.
She also enjoyed many hobbies and enjoyed traveling with her husband, Paul Hoyle.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her stepdaughter Cindy Cook; stepson Brian Hoyle; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, April 5, from 2-6 p.m. at Werner-Rothwell Funeral Home in Westhampton Beach. Refreshments will follow at the Westhampton Beach Firehouse at 6 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to East End Hospice (eeh.org).
