Westhampton Beach High School students in Korey Williams’s History of Long Island class recently visited the Westhampton Beach Historical Society. During the visit, the students viewed the society’s 75th anniversary D-Day exhibit and examined local contributions from World War II, including photos, uniforms and medals.
Westhampton Beach High School Science Research students learned more about careers in cardiothoracic surgery during a visit to Southside Hospital on November 12, where the got to handle surgical instruments.
In late September, Tuckahoe School third-graders went to the Bronx Zoo to enhance their study of Africa. While there, they visited the Congo, Madagascar, and the African Plains in search of animal species native to Africa. Students took detailed notes about each animal’s habitat, diet, predators, and adaptations. Back at school, the students will be writing persuasive essays, arguing whether or not a zoo is a good home for animals in comparison to living in their natural, wild habitat.

East Quogue Elementary School third- and fourth-graders are designing objects in Tinkercad, a web-based software, using their Chromebooks. A study of volcanoes will include a model of a volcanco, which will be printed on a 3D printer.
Third- and fourth-graders at Hampton Bays Elementary School were inducted into the school’s K-Kids community service organization during a ceremony on November 13. Participants of K-Kids meet before school once a month and organize fundraisers that benefit a variety of community organizations and causes, such as breast cancer awareness. They are currently hosting a Thanksgiving food drive.
Sag Harbor prekindergarten students are studying construction and looking at blueprints to learn how buildings, tunnels and bridges are made. As part of their studies, they recently visited the Pierson wood shop to sand and finish blocks of wood.

The Southampton Rotary Club with the help of Sarah Fitzsimmons and the Southampton Rotary Interact Club, Despatch of Southampton, The Carpetman, the Southampton Fire Department and Paul's Italian American Restaurant packed 110 food boxes to be donated to local food pantries for the holidays on Thursday, November 21. The Rotary Club will be collecting, "heavy bags" filled with pre-owned clothing for the next two weeks. DANA SHAW

The after-school children at the Bridgehampton Child Care & Recreational Center had a gardening lesson from Lynn Falkowski, assisted by Charlotte van Houten on Thursday, November 21. The kids learned all about daffodil bulbs and how to plant them, and then got first hand experience planting their daffodils. At the end they all got a packet of bulbs to bring home, complete with instructions. Fowler's Garden Center donated 300 daffodil bulbs and 19 garden bulb diggers were donated by Marders. TOM KOCHIE
