The Department of Homeland Security posted photos online Monday of several individuals apprehended in its raids over the weekend. An estimated 1 million undocumented immigrants work in the restaurant industry nationwide. On the South Fork, business owners said they are concerned that immigration crackdowns will impact the local labor pool workforce, either directly or through stresses put on workers by deportation proceedings against family members, housemates or even employers. Black History 365

Do you know the history of Seneca Village and beautiful iconic Central Park? Let’s learn together. Seneca Village was a 19th century settlement of mostly African American landowners in the borough of Manhattan in New York City, within what would become present-day Central Park. Seneca Village was founded in 1825 by free Black Americans, the first such community in the city, although under Dutch rule there was a “half-free” community of African-owned farms north of New Amsterdam. Support a Free Press

The other day, we learned that Donald Trump had the Associated Press kicked out of a news conference and barred from future ones because it would not call the Gulf of Mexico the Gulf of America. This is outrageous. But what’s more outrageous is that all the other reporters, from all the other major news outlets, did not walk out in support. This ridiculous trumped-up reason for barring the AP is clearly the first salvo in their effort to marginalize and destroy the press. We urgently ask that The Express News Group stand with the AP. Unfortunately, your organization could ... by Staff Writer

Reform Takes Time

If Ed Surgan enjoys reading letters from local Democrats [“It Stinks,” Letters, February 27], he’s likely to have an aneurysm reading a letter from a local Republican who says the same thing. I’ve been a Republican since I registered to vote in high school. I believe in a small, responsible government. Freedom of speech. Freedom of choice. Personal liberty. What Donald Trump and Elon Musk are precipitating via the Department of Government Efficiency is not responsible government. Musk’s intimidation of two million federal workers is not just abhorrent, it’s illegal. Employees are not answerable to the Office of Personnel and ... by Staff Writer
