Cyril Lewis Martin Jr. of Southampton died at his home on February 28, 2019, surrounded by his family.
Born in Southampton on March 25, 1927, he was the son of Cyril Martin Sr. and Martha Mead Martin. One of four children, he grew up on Raynor Road and attended Southampton Schools.
Mr. Martin enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1945 and served in the 288th C Battalion during the occupation of Germany following World War II. Upon his return, he married Alice Guldi and raised his two daughters, Terry and Brenda, in his beloved town of Southampton.
He continued his service to his country in 1957 by enlisting in the Coast Guard Reserve, serving for more than 30 years.
He began a career as an electrician for Adolph Guldi and Sons and in 1956 he became a member of the line gang and ultimately an installer for New York Telephone Co.
He was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Southampton, the Masonic Lodge 908, and VFW 7009.
His love for his country was demonstrated by his participation in Southampton Elementary School Flag Day activities and speaking at his grandson’s Boy Scout troop about the meaning and history of the flag.
Mr. Martin is survived by his wife of 71 years, Alice; his two daughters, Terry Stubelek and Brenda Miller and husband Richard; grandsons, Michael Stubelek and Bradley Miller and wife Janet; his sisters, Jane and Diane; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Brockett Funeral Home in Southampton.
