Daniel H. Murray of Vero Beach, Florida, and Southampton died peacefully at his home on December 23. He was 70.

He was born in Port Washington to Robert ‘Red’ and Barbara (Waters) Murray (both predeceased). He grew up in Upper Montclair, New Jersey, and later resided in Water Mill for many years with his family before moving to Vero Beach.

The restaurant career that he so loved started at MYπ in Hicksville; he eventually landed on the East End of Long Island, managing many different restaurants. The ever-popular Fairway Restaurant, located at the Poxabogue Golf Course in Sagaponack, where he was known for his energetic smile and welcoming personality, has been his second home for the last 35-plus years. He could be found playing golf or fishing the seas when he was not enjoying the restaurant patrons.

He was predeceased by his wife, Janet (Yager) Murray, and his brother, Robert L. Murray. He is survived by his two daughters, Jill Draycott and her husband Justin of Brightwaters, New York, and Erin Murray Spencer and her husband Ryan of Whitefish, Montana; his granddaughter, Julie Draycott; two brothers, Pete Murray and his wife Ann of Poway, California, and Patrick Murray and his wife Meg of Chatham, New Jersey; two sisters, Sharon Murray and partner Kari Kristiansen of Rocky Point, and Cathleen Black and her husband David of Livingston, New Jersey; nieces and nephews, Ryan Murray, Meghann Del Guercio, Shannon Murray Thomas Johnson, Dillon Murray, Joseph Murray, Haley Murray, Jake Murray, and Maggie Murray; and four great-nephews, Michael and Max Murray and AJ and Cameron Del Guercio.

Family and friends are welcome to attend a celebration of the Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, January 8, at the Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Church in Bridgehampton.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Western Golf Association Evans Scholars Foundation (wgaesf.org –Memorials and Honorariums).

A divided Southampton Village Board voted last week, 4-1, to hire a police officer who until recently worked for the Village of Westhampton Beach, where in 2021 he was suspended following an off-duty rollover accident.
