Denise O’Hearn of Southampton died peacefully in North Palm Beach, Florida, on February 16, surrounded by people she loved. She was 84.

Born in New York City, she was a graduate of Mercy Academy and Trinity College. She was a member of The Bathing Corporation of Southampton, Shinnecock Hills Golf Club, The Meadow Club of Southampton, The Lost Tree Club and The Southampton Garden Club.

She was fiercely loyal and generous, her family said, noting that she had boundless energy and a positive spirit, always supporting others in their lives. She was also brave, they said; she weathered both ups and downs with equal grace and determination.

A devoted wife, mother, grandmother and sister, she was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Walter D. O’Hearn Jr. She is survived by her beloved daughters, Meghan Benedict (Doug), Kelly Evans and Mary Harris (Richard); seven grandchildren, William and Matthew Benedict, Ryan and Tyler Evans, and Declan, Zoe and Walker Harris; her sisters, Nadine Carroll (Ed) and Maureen Parr and their families; and her many friends.

A mass of remembrance will be held in Southampton at a future date.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in her name to The Southampton Garden Club (sgcny.org) and Trustbridge Hospice Care of Palm Beach (trustbridge.com).
