Something must come to fruition in Southampton Town Hall. At numerous meetings over months and months, and years, the same stuff is discussed over and over, but there is never a conclusion. Something should be finalized.
The first time I heard about a sewage treatment plant coming to Flanders was in 1966. That’s 59 years ago. There’s still no plant.
Bel-Aire Cove property: Thanks to the town for removing the motel, but now it’s a vacant piece of property with a fence around, making it look like a Superfund site. It was supposed to become a park.
Why is the town buying Casa Basso and making another park [“Southampton Town Eyes Purchase of Casa Basso, Castle in Westhampton for Waterfront Park,” 27east.com, December 4, 2024]? They haven’t made the park yet at Bel-Aire.
The diner, 7Zs Pool and Getty by the circle: This is Southampton Town. There should not be ugly, derelict, empty, blighted, unused buildings in view of the public, and, especially, first impressions of our town the first time tourists arrive here.
Again, this is Southampton Town. There is no safe place to ride a bicycle in the township. There should be bike/walk trails from Shinnecock Inlet to Moriches Inlet, and from Red Creek Park to the Ponquogue Bridge. But I guess we could drive 40 minutes from Hampton Bays to the safe bike trail at Grumman in Calverton.
The bike lane on Route 24 is not safe. Riding on Dune Road is not safe.
Revitalization of Hampton Bays should be given to Alfred Caiola. It is a no-brainer. (I hate that term, but …) Or the town could paint the storefronts and build flower boxes with the $60,000 they were going to give merchants a couple of years ago.
Battery energy storage systems: I have no comment, except that it’s been discussed at dozens of meetings.
Traffic situation: I’m sorry, I have no solution. As long as more people move here there will be more traffic. We could travel at night.
In Tampa, they recently built a 10-mile-long bike/walk (only) path and bridge close to but separate from the Courtney Campbell Causeway across Tampa Bay. You could do that here, parallel to the Ponquogue Bridge.
