Donald D. Wells Jr. of East Hampton died peacefully in his home on February 15 after battling dementia/Alzheimer’s disease for the past eight years. He was 77.
Born on October 14, 1947, at Southampton Hospital, he was the first son of Donald D. Wells Sr. and Dorothy Patterson.
A proud graduate of Bridgehampton High School in 1967, he settled into a life of service after completing his education, joining the United States Navy and serving from 1967-1969. His time in the Navy not only shaped his character, but instilled a profound sense of duty and commitment to his country before embarking on a life full of family, work, and passion.
Throughout his life, he embraced adventure and exploration, living in various locations, including Phoenix, Arizona, Massachusetts, and returning to his roots in Bridgehampton. However, it wasn’t until he met the love of his life, Fanny Corwin, in 1981 that he truly found his home. Together, they forged a remarkable partnership marked by unwavering support and shared dreams. They married on June 11, 1983, and ultimately settled in East Hampton, where they built a lifetime of memories, laughter, and love.
He is survived by his wife Fanny; his children, Diana (Ryan) Balnis of East Hampton, and Jeremy (Stacey) Wells of Patchogue; his grandchildren, Grace Balnis and Ryan Balnis Jr.; his sisters, Donna Thayer Conklin and Suzie McLean. He was predeceased by parents; his brother Darrell Wells; and sisters Denise Wells and Patty Brown.
