Earl Edmund Arrington died at his home in Sag Harbor on September 9. He was 82 and had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease 15 years ago.

Born on May 25, 1933, in Brooklyn to Gladys Jackson Arrington and Reginald Arrington Sr., lifelong residents of Canarsie, he was the younger of two sons. He served in the US Army in the Korean War from 1953 to 1955 and was honorably discharged. In 1960, he married Virginia Arrington, and they had two children, Angelique and Michelle.

Mr. Arrington was a successful real estate broker in Brooklyn and Sag Harbor for more than 55 years. Always trying to better the community and help youth, Mr. Arrington served on numerous boards. He cherished his friendships and participated in many social organizations, such as the Englewood Social Club, the Comus Club and the Guardsmen, to name a few.

Survivors said he was a gentle man who lived life with enthusiasm, graciousness and compassion for others. During the last weeks and days of his life, he never complained and his sense of humor continued to be strong even with his limited ability to communicate.

Mr. Arrington is survived by his wife, Virginia; his daughters, Angelique and husband Milton Johnson, and Michelle and husband Colin Walter; granddaughter, Marissa Walter; sister-in-law, Elaine Williams; a host of nieces, grand-nieces and nephews; cousins; and many friends.
A funeral service will be held at J. Foster Phillips Funeral Home in Jamaica on Sunday, September 20, at noon, preceded by visitation at 11 a.m.

Memorial donations may be made to Sag Harbor Ambulance Corps, Box 2725, Sag Harbor, NY 11963 or Little Flower Children and Family Services of New York, 186 Joralemon Street, Brooklyn, NY 11201-4326.

An Ancient Battle

Aesop was my first author. I was 6 when I received a beautifully illustrated anthology — I read it forward and back. The mainly cautionary and instructive anecdotes anthropomorphized animals and elements and struck a chord with my world view. The fox, the crow, the goat and, of course, the boy who cried wolf were tangible compatriots. I shared in their flaws and learned from their lessons. It would be mid-March, late morning, when the North Wind challenged the Sun to a duel. Presumably, they are both bored — up there on a clear spring day with not even a ... by Staff Writer

Many Thanks

As many in the community are aware, on Friday, March 7, Westhampton Beach Middle School and High School were evacuated following bomb threat phone calls to each school [“Westhampton Schools Bomb Threats Came From Germany, at Behest of Local Student,” 27east.com, March 7]. Moving 1,400 students off campus without warning is challenging, but we were able to do so quickly and safely because we had tremendous cooperation and support. Thank you to the Westhampton Beach Village Police Department, the Town of Southampton Police Department and the New York State Police, who not only supported the evacuation but were integral to ... by Staff Writer
