The East Hampton girls basketball team hosted Pierson/Bridgehampton for its "Sink Pink" game on Monday night in what was a fundraiser for Katy's Courage, a not-for-profit organization honoring Katy Stewart, who died of a rare pediatric cancer at 12 years young. Founded in 2012, the organization is dedicated to education and support for families and children through scholarships, children’s bereavement support and pediatric cancer research. Katy’s parents, Brigid Collins and Jim Stewart, the latter of which is a coach and teacher at East Hampton, were both in attendance.

East Hampton girls basketball head coach Samantha James said this was the first time her team held a fundraiser game but plan on making it an annual occurrence. James said Katy’s Courage has always been an important charity to her — Katy was in her brother’s class at Sag Harbor — “and it is always so special to see the two local communities come together for a wonderful cause.”

With everyone's combined efforts, the game raiser over $1,8000, James said.

James said the gym was packed not just for the varsity game but for the junior varsity game that preceded it as well. East Hampton’s school band and cheerleaders both participated and during halftime there was a half-court shooting contest.

Pierson wound up winning the game, 42-37.
