Edward Mackey Of Southampton Dies October 19

Edward Mackey of Southampton died on October 19, 2017, at Southampton Hospital. He was 61.

Mr. Mackey, known as “Bubba” to many, was the son of the late Ernestine Mackey-Green and the late Emmanuel Frazier and was born on September 4, 1956, in Charleston, South Carolina. He attended Charleston County public schools. At an early age, he relocated to Southampton, and was employed by Stachecki Farms, Scott Wilson Landscaping, then Southampton Cemetery, where he remained until his health failed.

Mr. Mackey was a jack of all trades, he could repair just about anything and was always willing to lend a helping hand to whoever needed his assistance.

Survivors said he loved to spend time with his family and he loved to crack jokes.

He was predeceased by his parents; three sisters, Anna Lee Moore, Frances Matthews and Gertrude Matthews; four brothers, Ernest, Isaac and Eddie Green, and Clarence Matthews; two sons, Edward J. West of Southampton, and Shawn C. West (Laura) of New Jersey; a daughter, Tunica S. West of Southampton; two grandchildren, Kateri and Kent West of New Jersey; and his companion of 46 years, Pamela West of Southampton; seven sisters, Sadie Brown and Ella Green (Nathaniel), Earline Richards, Lorraine Graham, Sheila Heyward, Barbara and Doris Matthews, all of South Carolina; two brothers, Alvin Green (Sheila) of South Carolina and John Green (Yolanda) of Delaware; one uncle, Joe Frazier of South Carolina; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Also surviving are the West family, Francina Barco (Donald) and Landa West, Merry Brooks (Curtis), Victor and Kimberly West, and Veronica Hughes, all of North Carolina, and Terry Hughes of Connecticut.

Visitation will be held on Friday, October 27, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Brockett Funeral home in Southampton. A funeral will be held on Saturday at noon at the Community Baptist Church in Southampton, preceded by a viewing starting at 10 a.m. Interment will be at Southampton Cemetery.

Lucia Macario-Morales, 38, of Westhampton was arrested by Southampton Town Police at about 11:15 p.m. on January 24 and charged with felony aggravated DWI after being pulled over on County Road 39 for, police said, driving erratically and failing to stop at a stop sign.
