Mr. Schroeder was a decorated U.S. Army veteran. He served in World War II as a second lieutenant in the 4th Armored Division of General George S. Patton’s Third Army as platoon leader. He was seriously wounded in action on Easter Sunday, 1945 in Germany and spent nearly a year at Halloran General Army Hospital recovering from his injuries. Upon recovering from his injuries, he returned to Ohio University and completed his undergraduate degree in 1947. He graduated from Brooklyn Law School in 1950 and practiced law for over 60 years, from 1951 until his retirement in 2014. He was a member of the New York State Bar Association, the Nassau County Bar Association, the Suffolk County Bar Association, the Retired Officers Association, and the Phi Delta Phi Fraternity.
Mr. Schroeder was a loving father, husband, grandfather, and great grandfather, according to his family. He was married to Joanne Wells from 1946 until her death in 1991.
Known as “Captain Ed” to many, he was an avid deep-sea fisherman and boater. He was happiest on the water, working on his boat, and spending time with family and friends, his survivors said.
