Last week, I drove into the Village of Southampton to get myself a book and to get some mushroom soup.
I parked very close to the bookstore and was about to enter when I noticed that there were no books on the shelves. There was no bookstore.
And then I remembered that a Barnes & Noble had opened recently in Bridgehampton [“Barnes & Noble Opening in Bridgehampton Commons,” 27east.com, November 28, 2023]. A small bookstore just can’t compete with a much bigger national chain.
I am saddened when a small local business can no longer remain open because it can’t compete with a national chain.
And as if the closing of the bookstore were not enough, the mushroom soup was not available!

I am writing to alert my Southampton Town neighbors and fellow voters to the upcoming special election for Town Council this March 18. I suspect that if you are reading the letters section in the newspaper, you are already aware...

John Leonard [“No Bullying,” Letters, February 13] and husband Gene Valle’s [“Not Bullied,” Letters, February 13] letters rebutting mine and Ginnie Frati’s are a combination of misleading statements and lies. But to remove the “he said/she said” from the arguments,...
I request that The Press reconsider its high school wrestling section. While I understand the desire to cover local sports, the focus on wrestling may inadvertently contribute to a climate that encourages violence. Wrestling, by its nature, involves physical aggression...
