On Sunday, Father’s Day, June 20, Francis G. Schiavoni, loving husband, father, friend, son and dedicated member of the Sag Harbor community died. He was 86.

Born on September 16, 1934, and raised in Sag Harbor, Mr. Schiavoni was a plumbing contractor by trade. He married Anne O’Rourke, his Sugarplum, on June 1, 1957, and together they built a life raising four sons and a daughter.

He graduated Pierson High School in 1951, served in the United States Navy, and was a 42-year member of the Sag Harbor Fire Department, in which he earned the ranks of captain and warden. He coached youth baseball and volunteered for many events in his community and the St. Andrew RC Church.

Mr. Schiavoni was a husband and a father and a son, a brother and a friend, a plumber and a small business owner. He was a role model of how to live a good life full of productive work, community service, and love of family, his family said. Fran was a character … He had a booming voice, a good laugh and a strong handshake. He would greet people warmly with a smile. He loved to dance with his wife, Ann, golf, watch sports, and spend time with his grandchildren. He will be missed beyond the words to express such things, his family said.

He was predeceased by his father, Gabe, and mother, Emily. He is survived by his wife Ann; his five children, Fran, Matt, Ted, Tommy John and Catherine; and their spouses, Gail, Judy, Mary, Andrea, and Simon; and his grandchildren, Rob, April, Julia, Meg, Matthew, Anna, Thomas, and Sam, all of whom reside in the Sag Harbor area. In addition, he is also survived by his siblings, Catherine, Gabe, Marie and Vincent; as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Viewing was held on Wednesday, June 23, at Yardley & Pino Funeral home in Sag Harbor and services were held on Thursday, June 24, at the St. Andrews R.C. Church in Sag Harbor.

Donations to St. Andrew’s R.C. Church or the Sag Harbor Volunteer Fire Department would be welcome by the family.
