Frank Aguilar of West New York, New Jersey, and Hampton Bays died on Wednesday, October 26. He was 94.

He was born on October 19, 1917, to Estella and Francisco Aguilar in Honduras. After living in New Orleans and Boston, Mr. Aguilar settled in New York City. He served as an officer in the U.S. Merchant Marines from 1944 to 1946. He commandeered many missions under both U.S. and foreign flags, bringing supplies to allied troops which included the legendary Murmansk Run in the North Atlantic. Mr. Aguilar later became a building manager in New York City’s financial district at 20 Exchange Place and 40 Wall Street.

He and his wife Anna loved traveling and cruising, visiting many parts of the world, from Panama to Thailand. Mr. Aguilar enjoyed repairing anything that needed fixing. He was a loyal Boston Red Sox fan and was Anna’s faithful sous-chef. When entertaining, he made everyone feel like family.

He is survived by his children, Michael and Marianne Aguilar of Suffern, and Carlene and George Spiegel of Rye; grandchildren, Michael, Melissa, Whitney, and Michael; five great-grandchildren, Michael, Taylor, John, Dylan, and Brooke; a brother, Jimmy and his wife Norma; nieces and nephews, Nancy Burke, Ivonne Aguilar, Estella Aguilar, Karen Aguilar, Roberto Aguilar, Christopher Aguilar, Paul Aguilar, Steven Aguilar. Mr. Aguilar was recently predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Anna Aguilar.

A memorial service was held on Saturday, November 5, at 4:30 p.m. at Rye Presbyterian Church, 882 Boston Post Road, Rye, NY.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Lustgarten Foundation at 1111 Stewart Avenue, Bethpage, NY
