Fred M. Phillips of San Diego, California, died on June 25, 2018. Born July 11, 1958, he grew up in Hampton Bays, graduating from Hampton Bays High School in 1976. He attended Florida Southern College where he studied accounting and was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. He moved to San Diego to continue his education and follow the sun. There, he met Jeanne, who would become his wife and they raised two children, Anthony and Sophia, whom he adored.

As an entrepreneur, he ran his own business as court researcher. Survivors said there are no words to describe his generosity of spirit, his quick wit and wide arc of his mind. Known for his wit and intelligence as well as his athleticism, he was always competitive, and coached every sport his kids participated in. In retirement he continued to coach youth basketball and was active in many charitable causes including Remote Area Medic, GRID solar, Red Cross, and many more.

His dream of becoming a published author was realized in 2017, with many more works in progress.

Mr. Phillips is survived by his wife, Jeanne; his children, Anthony and Sophia; a sister, Bev; a niece and nephew, Becky and Jason (Josina); and great-nieces, Ailia and Laurel.

A funeral will be held at Good Ground Cemetery in Hampton Bays on Saturday, September 8, at 11 a.m. Following the service, friends and former classmates are invited to the home of Laura MacBride McLoughlin, 13 Higbee Road, Hampton Bays, for refreshments and reminiscing.
