Frederick Francis Schneider Sr. died at his residence in Hampton Bays on March 21, with his wife by his side. He was 83.
Mr. Schneider, the son of the late John Phillip Schneider and Carolyn McCauley, was born September 4, 1937 in Brooklyn. He grew up as a Brooklyn Dodger fan with his older brother John, and his two younger brothers Thomas and James.
In the 1800s, his family settled in Brooklyn after coming from Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany. Mr. Schneider entered the U.S. Army in May, 1961, and was a decorated sharpshooter. He spent two years in the Army National Guard of New York before moving to Long Island and starting a family with his first wife, Joan Schneider.
In the late 1960s, Mr. Schneider was working as a tile mechanic and helped tile Riverhead School before founding his own tile company, F. Schneider Tile Corporation in 1970, and then opened Style Marble and Tile in 1987. Mr. Schneider worked alongside his sons Rick, Jimmy, and Micheal tiling homes from New York City to Montauk, until he retired in 2012.
Mr. Schneider married his true love, Constance Carter Schneider, in 1990 and became known as ‘Connie’s husband’ in Hampton Bays, according to his family. Together in 2009, they retired to Punta Gorda, Florida, for the winter months returning to Hampton Bays each spring to watch their grandchildren participate in multiple sporting activities.
Mr. and Mrs. Schneider could often be found on the sidelines of Baymen football games and Mariner baseball.
He is survived by his daughters Linda Kujawa, Jane Boyd and her husband Jack; sons Allen, James, Michael and Frederick Jr. (Rick); daughters-in-law, Joanne, Lorri and Mary; step-son Henry Huecker; stepdaughters Janet Huecker and her wife Diane Sutton, Julie Lester and her husband David; 18 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Services were scheduled for Friday, March 26, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Scott Rothwell Funeral Home in Hampton Bays. A Mass will take place Saturday, March 27, at Church of St. Rosalie in Hampton Bays.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his name to East End Hospice (eeh.org), or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital (donors@stjude.org) would be appreciated by the family.
