Geneva Elizabeth Trotman of the Shinnecock Indian Reservation died on April 10, 2019. She was 98.
Born on February 22, 1921, to Frederick Cuffee and Elizabeth Duryea Cuffee, on the Shinnecock Indian Reservation, she married the late Elton Clayburton “Burt” Trotman. The couple had nine children.
Ms. Trotman worked for the State of New York, retiring after 27 years of dedicated service, and returned with her husband to her homeland, Shinnecock.
Predeceased by her husband, Elton; a son, Daryl Theodore; and a grandson, Gary T. Johnson, she is survived by her children, Ronald Lewis (Ola May), Beverly Ann, Barbara Lynn, Elton Clayburton Jr. (Malesta), Sharon Leigh (Otis), Judith Alexis, Linda Millicent (David) and David Michael. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Geneva, Caryn, Donna, LeiLani, Tawana, Yolanda, Cherisse, Courtney, Abdul, David Jr., Daryl, Ehren, Malikka and Naeemah; 23 great-grandchildren, Elijah, Isaiah, Tyrone, Jerome, Ernest, Jarell, Dyonna, Sharitta, Stephen, A’lex, Joshaya, Ozziah, Azzana, Sydni, Jasmine, Ronald II, Jamar, Eric, Jasmine, Malachai, Savannah, Harper and Creed; nine great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.
She was the last surviving of 10 siblings, Andrew, Raymond, Frederick, Lloyd, Clarissa, Georgette, Constance, Erma and Eunice.
A funeral service was held April 16 at the Shinnecock Presbyterian Church, followed by interment at Shinnecock Cemetery.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Brockett Funeral Home in Southampton.
