As president of the Hampton West Estates Residents Association, I would like to sincerely thank all of those individuals who took part in containing the recent Pine Barrens fire in our neighborhood [“Fast Response Succeeds in Bringing Fast-Moving Westhampton Pines Fire Under Control,” 27east.com, March 12]. It brought back those rather upsetting memories of fires in 1995, and I must say that the emergency services were absolutely first rate and quickly on top of the situation.
I’d also like to thank those local neighborhood residents who used our resident Facebook page to disseminate information and heeded our request to state official information and not rumors. In this way, a panic was averted and, as it turned out, everyone was safe and sound, and the emergency personnel prevented any loss of property in our neighborhood.
Again, thank you so much, we are grateful.

I’m so proud of John Leonard. I’m so proud of being a Democrat. They ran a “clean” campaign and stuck to the facts and issues and not to character attacks. My takeaway: When you are not adequately qualified, a candidate...
Knowing the tone of conversation in Hampton Bays, I suspect many voted the current federal administration in. As the Department of Education is dismantled, federal tax dollars will disappear. I hope they all show up to vote the school budgets...
An enthusiastic and well-deserved thank you for the efforts of so many first responders in our community, as well as dozens of communities throughout Suffolk County and beyond, during our recent serious brush fire, scarily reminiscent of our Pine Barrens...
With the 2025 Southampton Town election petition season well underway, I am officially announcing my candidacy for election to the Southampton Town Board of Trustees. Thanks to all the people I have met with who have taken the time to...
Thank you, Andrew Messinger. The eighth paragraph of the “Ramble” article [“The March Garden Ramble,” Hampton Gardener, Residence, 27east.com, March 22] is most important for understanding the connections to the world of our ecosystem. If poison is used, other parts...
With the March 18 special election loss in Southampton, following the disappointing defeat of John Avlon in the 2024 congressional race, and the 2023 lackluster Democratic performance across Suffolk County — both in the legislature and the executive’s office —...
On behalf of the Hann family, we extend our heartfelt gratitude and deep appreciation for the support and presence of the Westhampton Beach Fire Department. It was only last week we laid to rest Raymond Hann. The wake held at...
I read with great disappointment the childish reaction the losing candidate expressed the night of Tuesday’s special election [“Martel Defeats Leonard in Southampton Town Special Election for Board Seat,” 27east.com, March 18]: a tantrum-like statement blaming his opponent for a...
