Max Haynia’s run for indoor titles for the Westhampton Beach track team began on Saturday at the boys League IV Championships at Suffolk County Community College in Brentwood.

The Westhampton Beach senior won the 3,200-meter race in 9:30.38, well ahead of second place finisher Jack Bisbee of Half Hollow Hills West, who finished in 10:12.82.

Westhampton Beach freshman John Reilly snagged a point in the same race by finishing fifth in 10:54.98. Nicholas Simonetta, a senior, placed fourth in the 300-meter dash in 37.85 seconds. Jack Hendrickson, a junior, placed fifth in the shot put with a throw of 38 feet 7 inches.

In what was a close meet throughout, the Hurricane girls finished second to Sayville, 121-114, at their League IV Championships which were Sunday at Suffolk County Community College in Brentwood.

Lily Strebel was a double league champion in both the 1,000-meter race (3:06.24) and the 1,500-meter race (4:50.99). Maya Cirincione won the 1,500-meter race walk in 8:11.21. Teammates Emily Tully and Sydney Beardslee finished third and fourth in the same race in 8:55.49 and 8:58.74, respectively.

The 4x800-meter relay team of Strebel, Jamie Kelly, Oona Murphy and Gabby Wendel placed second in 10:33.41. The 4x200-meter relay team won in 1:54.03 and the 4x400-meter relay team placed fourth in 4:41.17. Names of runners from both teams were not provided.

Anabelle Vellosa placed second in the 300-meter dash in 43.26 seconds. Halle Geller placed second in the 55-meter dash in 7.58 seconds. Madison Phillips took second place in the 55-meter hurdles in 9.14 seconds with teammate Evangeline Wasser taking third in 9.57 seconds. Phillips also placed third in the high jump (4 feet 8 inches) and fourth in the shot put (29 feet 10 inches). Westhampton Beach head coach John Broich said that a former athlete of his, Annmarie McAuley, has been a big addition to the coaching staff as a volunteer assistant, especially helping Phillips in a number of her events. McAuley, a 1995 graduate, still holds the school record in the outdoor discus and competed collegiately at Clemson University.

Tully finished third in the triple jump with a leap of 30 feet 1 inch. Wendel finished fourth in the 600-meter run in 1:48.47 and Murphy crossed the finish line of the 3,000-meter race in 11:30.28 which placed her fifth.
