Henry Lawrence (Larry) Bogert III of Water Mill died after a brief illness on March 14, surrounded by his daughters and granddaughters.
He was born July 11, 1938, in New York City to H. Lawrence Bogert Jr. and Margaret Milbank Bogert.
He attended Buckley School, where as a star gymnast, he held the record for three years for walking on his hands.
After graduation, he attended St. Paul’s School and focused on team sports, especially lacrosse, which he played well enough to play at the varsity level at Yale. As a member of the Yale Class of 1960, he followed a family legacy begun by his grandfather and father, and carried on by a daughter and all three granddaughters.
His childhood summers were spent at Fishers Island, spearfishing the island’s waters for stripers and competing in bullseye sailing races around Fishers Island Sound.
Loving the shore and being near the sea, he brought his family to Southampton and eventually Mecox Bay in Water Mill, where he became a longtime resident with many friends who shared his love of sailing, tennis and paddle, parties and dancing.
Like his father and namesake, his career revolved around Wall Street, starting at Spencer Trask, then Shearson Lehman American Express and ending at Wellington Shields & Co., where he was an attentive and beloved adviser to his many clients until the end.
He was predeceased by his wife of 30 years, Eleanor (Peri) Wheeler Bogert. He is survived by his brother Jeremiah M. Bogert; daughters Hilary Bogert McKown and Cyrena Bogert Fink; and granddaughters Brigitte, Chloé and Charlotte Fink.
Burial will be private and a memorial service is planned for the spring.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Southampton Fresh Air Home, 36 Barkers Island Rd., Southampton, NY 11968.
