Ida E. Aldrich Of Southampton Dies December 6

Ida E. Aldrich of Southampton died on December 6, 2019, after a short hospitalization. She was 92.

Ms. Aldrich was born in Bangor, Pennsylvania, to Marguerite (Yeager) and George L. Kuhlman. The family moved to Southampton when she was young and she attended Southampton Public Schools, graduating in 1945. In 1947, she and her high school sweetheart, Edward L. Aldrich, were married; shortly thereafter they moved to North Sea to start a family.

Mrs. Aldrich was employed by the Southampton Lumber Corporation as a bookkeeper and in 1965 was hired as a bus driver for the Southampton School District. She thoroughly enjoyed driving schoolchildren until her retirement in 1990.

She was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church choir for 50 years and a member of the North Sea Fire Department’s Ladies Auxiliary.

Each spring and summer, Mrs. Aldrich could be found in her garden, tending her vegetables and the many different types of flowers she grew, which was a great source of pleasure to her. She was an avid reader of books, and would spend hours solving crossword and picture puzzles, while still finding time to do sewing projects and building doll houses.

Mrs. Aldrich is survived by her sons, Chris Aldrich of Virginia and Lance Aldrich and wife Amy of Southampton; and grandsons, Daniel and Grady Aldrich.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Brockett Funeral Home in Southampton.

She was predeceased by her husband of 43 years, Edward L. Aldrich.
