James J. McEntee Of Southampton Dies February 15

James J. McEntee died on February 15, 2019, at his home in Southampton, surrounded by his family. He was 72.

Mr. McEntee was one of four children born in Brooklyn to first-generation Irish Catholic parents, Patrick and Rose McEntee. He attended Catholic school in Brooklyn and later graduated from Fordham University.

His career began at an early age. While still at Fordham he worked in the back office of Chase Bank and at 23 became one of the founding partners of Carroll, McEntee & McGinley. His bond trading style was pivotal to the success of the new company.

His Irish ancestry was well known and the annual St. Patrick’s Day party he hosted was a coveted event. After serving as chairman and Co-CEO of CM&M, the company was sold to one of the largest banks in the world and Mr. McEntee formed his own investment firm, McEntee & Associates.

In both his private and professional lives, Mr. McEntee has always been committed to philanthropy, with a special interest in underprivileged children. He and his wife, Barbara, founded the annual Southampton Fresh Air Home fireworks picnic, which they hosted at their home for many years. He served as a director of Catholic Big Brothers and served on the board of the Southampton Hospital.

Mr. McEntee had a special affection for Southampton and called it home for more than 40 years. He loved to travel, ski, play tennis, golf and swim in the ocean.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara A. McEntee; and his children, Kathryn and husband James; Conor, James Jr. and wife Sophie; and his grandchildren, Theia and River.

Visitation will be at O’Connell Rothwell Funeral Home in Southampton on Friday, February 22, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, February 23, at 10 a.m. at the Basilica Parish of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary in Southampton.

Memorial donations may be made to the Southampton Fresh Air Home.

Jon Alan Baer of Sag Harbor Dies November 30

Jon Alan Baer, a lifelong resident of Sag Harbor, died on November 30. He was 80. Born on June 25, 1945, in Southampton, he was the son of Kosty Joseph Baer and Mary Olive Klingler. The November 25 Southampton Village Board work session delivered yet another reminder of our village’s lack of ethics. Santa Coming to Westhampton Beach

The Village of Westhampton Beach will host its annual Christmas Tree and Menorah Lighting Celebration on the Village Green on Saturday, December 6, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. At 6 p.m., the Westhampton Beach Fire Department will escort Santa to the Green, joining decorated fire trucks from neighboring departments in a festive parade of lights down Main Street.
