Jane Lucille Kellis died on March 9, 2020. She was 85.
Born in Bay Shore on May 12, 1934, to Lucy and Benedict T Kemper, she married Robert F. “Cobb” Kellis on July 7, 1956. Survivors said her beautiful smile was welcoming to all and that she was a lady of deep faith, praying for and loving her family over the years. With her husband, she provided for and nurtured her family in every way, welcoming their friends as family over the years. She used to say she had “kids in school” for more than 40 years with an almost 19 year gap between her eldest and youngest children. She especially loved the many large Kellis family gatherings which take place twice a year. She loved the water and fishing and boating with her husband.
In her later years, she loved spending a week each July at various places along the Outer Banks in North Carolina with her family. She would relax and read 4 or 5 paperbacks and consume a few Shashas along the way. She would make a day-trip and ferry-ride to have lunch at Howard’s Pub on Ocracoke Island.
Ms. Kellis is survived by her husband, Bob; children Rob (Sharon), Keri Jane Medio, and Steve Kellis (Jessica); seven grandchildren, Elizabeth Newton (Dustin), Mary Caroline, Catherine Clancy, Matt Medio, Patrick Medio, Graceann Kellis, and Charlie Kellis; and one great-grandchild, Lila May Newton.
Visitation was at the O’Connell-Rothwell Funeral Home in Southampton on March 10. A funeral Mass took place on March 11 at The Basilica Parish of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus & Mary Church in Southampton. Cremation followed.
