Jean K. Lenahan of Montauk died on April 7 at Southampton Hospital. She was 75.

Ms. Lenahan was born on April 8, 1938, in Oneida, Pennsylvania, to Anna and Nicolas Krutz. She grew up in a large family, with 14 other siblings, in a small coal mining town.

In 1954, at age 15, she journeyed to Montauk along with Catherine Ecker, a longtime friend of the Krutz family. Ms. Ecker, who owned the Trail’s End restaurant in Montauk, asked Ms. Lenahan to come work for her in the restaurant during the summer of 1954. After a couple of years of visiting Montauk during the summer months, she moved full time to Montauk, where she met her husband, Robert A. Lenahan Sr., who worked as a bartender at Trail’s End.

After getting married in 1960, the Lenahans settled in Montauk, starting a family in 1961. Between 1961 and 1965, they had four children.

Mr. Lenahan died in 1992. Ms. Lenahan is survived by her four children, Robert A. Lenahan Jr. of New Hampshire, Vincent Lenahan of Atlanta, and Lucille A. Lenahan and Joseph P. Lenahan, both of Montauk. Also surviving are six grandchildren and 35 nieces and nephews.

Visiting was on Friday at the Yardley and Pino Funeral Home in East Hampton. A funeral service was held on Saturday at St. Therese Church in Montauk, with burial at Most Holy Trinity Cemetery in East Hampton.

Donations may be made to the Montauk Fire Department, 12 Flamingo Avenue, Montauk, NY 11954 or the American Kidney Foundation.

A bill that would have bestowed new individual zip codes for Flanders, Riverside and Northampton failed to be taken up for a vote by the U.S. Senate before Congress wrapped up its business at the end of 2024. The bill, which would have granted zip codes to more than 40 small communities around the country, had been pushed through the U.S. House of Representatives by a bipartisan coalition of federal lawmakers and residents of the three northwestern Southampton Town hamlets had been encouraged by interest in the matter shown by Senator Charles Schumer’s office.
