Joan B. Zaluski (née Webber) of Water Mill died peacefully at her home on the Zaluski family farm on January 28. She was 93.
She was born on September 19, 1930, in Alexandria, Virginia. She married William L. Zaluski on February 4, 1950, in Water Mill.
The mother of four sons, Billy, Steve, John and Marc, she and her family worked one of the historic potato farms on the East End for many years. Throughout her life, she accomplished so much. She also worked at the telephone company, did bookkeeping at Strong Oil and Baywoods, and opened the Windmill Country Store on Main Street in Water Mill, all while running the farm.
She never missed the opportunity to grow and learn, according to her family. A published poet, a Eucharistic minister, a college grad in her 50s, and an integral part of the opening of the first East End cardiology office, she shared her enthusiasm for life with her family and friends.
She touched many lives, by making even the little things fun, and by showing compassion to those in need, her family said. A devoted Catholic, celebrating life was her mantra, and she took her friends and family along on the journey. She loved her farm, her office, her family photos, her sun porch, her blooming garden and her field of sunflowers. She loved to laugh. She loved to get and give hugs. And she sure loved to say and hear “I love you.”
She was predeceased by her husband, William L. Zaluski, in 2010; her son, William T. Zaluski in 2018; and her sister, Eleanor Hummel, in 2008. She is survived by her sons and their wives: Stephen and Deb, John and Meg, and Marc and Debby; her niece, Gail Dion; her grandchildren, Lara, Luke, Seth, Jessica, Justine, Michael, Skylar, Jarred and Jade, and their families, including her seven great-grandchildren.
