Joanne (Needles) Eggert, formerly of East Quogue, died at home on August 6, 2017, in Palm City, Florida. She was 74.
Ms. Eggert was born on June 12, 1943, in Santa Cruz, California, to Arthur and Evelyn Suzette Needles. She graduated from Southampton High School in 1961. She then attended Florida Southern College, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1966. She continued her education at Western Carolina University and completed her master’s degree in 1967. She married Richard Eggert on July 19, 1969.
After moving to East Quogue, she began teaching in East Islip. Joanne was an accomplished crafter and artist, with many interests. She was a gregarious and witty individual, survivors said, who loved to travel and who was passionate about her children. She was an active member of the Stuart Women’s Club and often volunteered at the Red Cross.
Ms. Eggert is survived by two children, Richard C. Eggert and Christopher H. Eggert, both of Florida.
A memorial service will be held at Beach United Methodist Church in Westhampton Beach on Tuesday, September 26, at 1 p.m., with a reception to follow; Pastor Jack King will officiate. Condolences may be sent to cheggert88@gmail.com.
