Joanne Hart of Southampton died peacefully on June 13. She was 88.

She was a long-time Southampton resident and amateur tennis champ.

She lived an adventurous life and made many great friends in the community, her survivors said.

Born in New York, she grew up in Miami Beach, where her parents, Joe and Belle Hart, owned a popular resort, The Castaways Hotel.

She started tennis early in the Florida sun and was a natural at the sport, which she played for most of her life.

Hart moved to Paris, where she worked in fashion and helped produce a fashion TV special with Lauren Bacall.

She exemplified a profound sense of independence and found joy in writing, reading, and art, her survivors said. She was a staunch Democrat and devotee of MSNBC.

“We mourn her passing with a smile, noting her great sense of humor and zest for life,” her survivors said.

She is survived by her sister, journalist and interviewer Jeanne Wolf; her close companion, Iona Joyce Street; and memories of dear friends.
