John Paul Mazzella of Hampton Bays Dies April 26

John Paul Mazzella
John Paul Mazzella of Hampton Bays died on Friday, April 26, at the Westhampton Care Center, surrounded by family and loved ones, following a yearlong battle with complications from ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease. He was 71.

Raised in the Morris Avenue section of the Bronx, he attended Cardinal Hayes High School and graduated with a degree in finance from Baruch College of the City University of New York. Following a long career in accounting and international steel trading, Mr. Mazzella retired in Hampton Bays to enjoy his home there and pursue hobbies that included computer technology and tennis. He also continued to focus on animal welfare causes and environmental conservation.

Mr. Mazzella is survived by his longtime companion, Eve Houlihan of Hampton Bays; his children, Kim Garrity, John J. Mazzella and Paul Mazzella; the mother of his children, Peggy Kostyshyn; his grandchildren, Tyler, Tristan and Callum Garrity and Ava Mazzella; and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his siblings, Andrew, Mario, Joseph and Richard Mazzella, Rosemarie Coffey and Stella Neste.

A funeral Mass was celebrated at the Church of St. Rosalie in Hampton Bays on Friday, May 3.
