Justeen “Jayne” E. Mulvaney of Southampton died on April 28 at Brookhaven Memorial Hospital from complications of a hemorrhagic stroke she suffered in January. She was 69.
Born to Herman and Adele LaPenas Endlekofer in Newark, New Jersey, she moved with her family to North Sea in 1955, and graduated from Southampton High School in 1957.
She married Bud Early of Sag Harbor in 1958 and together they had a daughter, Robin E. Holden, born in 1959. She later married Ray Mulvaney in 1963 and had her second daughter, Sharon R. Mulvaney. She was later divorced from Mr. Mulvaney but always remained close with him and his wife, Charlene.
Ms. Mulvaney worked at John Duck Jr.’s Restaurant in Southampton for more than 20 years, and later retired from Southampton College after 17 years of working there. According to the family, she was an extremely devoted mother and grandmother who attended every special event in their lives that she possibly could.
She is survived by her daughter Sharon and her husband Michael Sheppard of Hampton Bays; a sister, Adele Howitt of Melbourne, Australia; and two granddaughters, Chessa and Alexandra “Lexi” Sheppard, both of Hampton Bays.
She was predeceased by her daughter Robin in February 2003, and by a brother, Herman “Buddy” Endlekofer, in April 2002.
The family received visitors on May 1 at the O’Connell Funeral Home in Southampton. A memorial service was held on May 2 at O’Connell Funeral Home. Cremation followed.
