Killing the Goose

Bill Hillman said it all: Tinkering with the existing roadways will not alleviate the problem in any way, shape or form [“Traffic Solutions Will Require Remaking the South Fork, Experts Say, and May Be Unlikely To Ever Happen,” 27east.com, October 23].

And the roadways are the canary in the mine. All of the infrastructure in the Hamptons is overtaxed — too much is demanded of the water table, which is being infiltrated with saline water; electronic signals are weakening.

We are killing the goose that laid the golden eggs on which builders have become more than rich. There is only one way to keep it from getting worse: freeze real estate development.
