Mr. Swenson was born in Queens Village, New York, in 1931 to Hedvig and Samuel Svenssen, both of whom emigrated from Norway. After enlisting in the Air Force during the Korean War, he spent more than 30 years in the field of public education as a teacher, guidance counselor, administrator and adjunct college professor, serving as president of both the Western Suffolk and East End guidance associations.
