Laughable Notion

I am writing to respond to the recent letter by Paula Angelone [“Violence Is Wrong,” Letters, July 15]. I agree with her that violence is bad, and we are becoming more tolerant to it, but that does not make it right.

However, her focus was primarily on the events of January 6, 2021. There was incredibly more violence, damage and people hurt at the government facilities in Portland, Oregon, and in other major cities where it had nothing to do with Trump supporters. These violent activities were from Black Lives Matter and Antifa people.

As to the January 6 insurrection, as she calls it, President Trump did not instigate violence. He wanted a peaceful protest. Add to this, the Capitol Police did not try to stop anyone, and there is video evidence that shows the Capitol Police opening doors for the people to come into the Capitol. I believe to call this event, with no weapons, an insurrection by Trump supporters is not based upon facts but ignorance, and is ridiculous. Her comment calling the election legitimate is laughable.

To add insult to injury, the government has selectively put some of the Trump supporters in jail for months without filing charges. Now, that is something that should investigated.

I am disturbed by political violence, as most people are. However, I am more disturbed by left-wing bias by the media and what the media and big tech are doing to hurt the country. As an honest, taxpaying American who has worked hard all his life, I am offended by all this left-wing hatred and activity.
