Regarding the June 20 editorial, “Out in Front”:
Stony Brook Southampton Hospital, as part of the Stony Brook Medicine health care system, continues to lead in expanding access to world-class health care throughout the two forks. The hospital is a primary stroke center and the first on the East End to be designated a Level III Trauma Center. We were also the first fully equipped cardiac catheterization laboratory on the East End to provide emergency and elective treatments delivered by Stony Brook Heart Institute specialists.
Our Phillips Family Cancer Center provides comprehensive cancer treatments and seamless access to the specialists at Stony Brook Cancer Center, allowing patients to spend time with loved ones rather than hours traveling west for life-saving care. The Edie Windsor Healthcare Center is a recognized leader in providing HIV prevention and treatment and specializes in LGBTQ* health care. Our Breast Center is recognized as an Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology and, with support from the Ellen Hermanson Foundation, provides free screenings to East End women who have no insurance or cannot pay.
Fredric Weinbaum, MD, chief medical officer and chief operating officer, has been named as the hospital’s interim chief administrative officer while Stony Brook Medicine conducts a nationwide search, ensuring seamless continuity.
Fundraising plans for the new Stony Brook Southampton Hospital, which will be built on the Stony Brook University Southampton campus, continues uninterrupted under the steadfast leadership of the Southampton Hospital Association’s chair, Kenneth B. Wright, and vice chair, James Forbes. This new state-of-the-art facility will help shape the future of health care delivery on the East End by providing access to the most advanced technologies and treatments for generations to come.
Southampton Hospital Association has successfully raised over $40 million to date for the East Hampton Satellite Emergency Department. Thanks to the generosity of local donors and a $10 million New York State grant made to Stony Brook University, the facility is currently under construction and will provide much needed emergency health care services to those who live farthest east, particularly during the high traffic seasons.
As part of Stony Brook Medicine, a leader in transforming lives through scientific discovery, education and health care, we are wholly committed to bringing our East End communities access to high-level health care.
