Leland James Bailey Jr., known as “Jack,” formerly of Southampton, died on July 3. He was 52.
Born on July 14, 1961 in Moses Cone Hospital in North Carolina, he attended Southampton High School and Hampton Bays High School, before moving to Riverhead to live with his sister. Recently, he relocated to North Carolina. Survivors said he was a scholar in his own right and an entrepreneur most of his life, except when he worked for his father’s carpentry business. Survivors said he was a very giving person.
Mr. Bailey was predeceased by his father, Leland James Bailey Sr.; his mother, Maxine Elliot Murray Bailey; and a brother, David (Wolfe) Miree. He is survived by a daughter, Rachel Bailey of Washington; two sisters, Maria Elizabeth Bailey of North Carolina and Gail Miree of New York; nephews, Kyle Gordon and James J. Hires Jr.; and a niece, Angela Williams. He is also survived by his dear friend, Michael Bianchi.
