Lois Lorraine (Andrews) Wobst of Royal Palm Beach, Florida, and a former longtime resident of Southampton died on April 15. She was 96.
Ms. Wobst, a native of Scottsbluff, Nebraska, met her future husband, Hans W. Wobst of Southampton, while he was stationed at the nearby U.S. Army airfield. Following a brief period, they were married on April 12, 1943. World events at the time kept them apart for months before they could begin their life journey.
Upon arriving in Southampton, Ms. Wobst contributed to the village and county in various capacities. She became an insurance agent with J. Foster Terry and Company in November 1955. She was also an active member of the VFW, a volunteer for the Southampton Ladies Auxiliary as the second president and served in the Suffolk County Ladies Auxiliary as president from 1958-1959.
She was an active member of the Southampton Methodist Church, donating her time to various causes and local activities. After 36 years at the insurance agency, and decades of community volunteer efforts, Ms. Wobst retired in 1991. She and her husband spent several years vacationing in Florida during the winter and returning to their Southampton home for the summer. After several years, the couple decided to become permanent residents of Florida.
At her home in Royal Palm Beach, Ms. Wobst spent time enjoying tatting and crocheting. The couple loved to travel, according to their family, and after the death of her husband, Ms. Wobst continued traveling on regional trips, sea cruises and to international destinations. Ms. Wobst was actively involved with the Royal Palm Beach Connect Church, was a member of the YAH and Forever Young groups. Family was very important to Ms. Wobst, and she returned frequently to Nebraska for holidays, family reunions and weddings. She will be dearly missed by her family, her survivors said.
She was predeceased by her husband, Hans W. Wobst; her son Floyd Wobst; her parents, Hershel and Florence Andrews; and her three younger siblings. She is survived by a niece and eight nephews; as well as many great-nieces, great-nephews and close friends.
A virtual memorial service will be held on Tuesday, May 4, at 7 p.m., Eastern Time.
