Marilyn Ann Davey
Marilyn Ann Davey of East Moriches died peacefully at her daughter Maureen’s home in New Jersey on Monday, November 14, surrounded by family. Known to all as Lynne, Mrs. Davey was 82.
Born on October 18, 1929, in Brooklyn to Ann (née Flood) and Harold Higgins of Laurelton, Mrs. Davey was a longtime resident of East Moriches, where she raised her three daughters. She graduated from the Mary Louis Academy in Jamaica Estates and attended St. Joseph’s College in Brooklyn before working in business and the early airline industry. She married Edward Patrick Davey on March 3, 1957, at St. Clare’s in Rosedale and for a time the couple resided in Brooklyn.
Mrs. Davey is remembered by her friends, acquaintances and family for her deep faith, her pride in her family, her passion for following the Yankees, tennis and ice skating, as well as her strength, caring and genuine interest in others’ lives, recalling with great detail all birthdays, anniversaries and special shared moments. Years ago, Mrs. Davey committed her life to kindness and was inspired by the quote: “I expect to pass through this world but once. Any good thing, therefore, that I can do or any kindness I can show to any fellow human being let me do it now. Let me not defer nor neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again,” by Stephen Grellet, a prominent French-born Quaker minister.
Mrs. Davey is survived by three daughters, Maureen Rezny and her husband Robert of New Jersey, Nadine Davey-Rogers and her husband Shaun of Florida, and Deirdre Davey McGraw and her husband Ryan of Quiogue; seven grandchildren, Brendan Rezny, Carolyn Rezny, Anna Rogers, Declan Rogers, Owen Rogers, Fraser McGraw, Heath McGraw; a sister, Maureen Snyder and her husband, Lt. Col. Ret. Edward Snyder of Westhampton Beach; a brother-in-law, Thomas Davey of Florida; six nieces and nephews; and two great-nephews, Joshua Goldberg and Jason Davey. She was predeceased by her husband, Edward Davey.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 18, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Follett & Werner Funeral Home in Westhampton Beach. A funeral Mass will be held Saturday, November 19, at 9:30 a.m., at St. John the Evangelist in Center Moriches.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Mary Louis Academy, Attn.: Sean Belon, 176-21 Wexford Terrace, Jamaica Estates, NY 11432.
