Margaret S. Blowes of East Quogue died on July 16, 2018. She was 69.
Born on July 9, 1949, at Fort Lewis, Washington, to her parents, Pauline Margaret Gibb and Leonard Robert Stacy, she lost her paternal father when she was 12 and moved to Hampton Bays in 1961 with her mother and stepfather, Edward Flynn. Shortly after arriving from Kansas 55 years ago she became known as “Marty” to her friends. She met the man who would become her husband, Richard Blowes, on her first day of school and vowed from that day to marry him, which she did on October 2, 1971.
After graduating from Hampton Bays High School in 1967, she attended Suffolk County Community College. Following college, she went to work for the Westhampton Beach School District’s guidance department, until she took a job at Southampton Hospital on December 8, 1969. She retired from Southampton Hospital, after 45 years of service, on June 27, 2014.
After converting to Catholicism, she married Mr. Blowes at the Church of St. Rosalie and celebrated with a reception at the Canoe Place Inn in Hampton Bays. They continued to reside in Hampton Bays until they built their first home in East Quogue, where they raised their three sons, Daryl, Devin and Dustin. They also built their retirement home in East Quogue, making sure there was ample space to enjoy their extended family annual reunions.
Survivors said Ms. Blowes was a rare soul who always had time for her family and friends. She was a “caregiver” to all, a woman who took everything head on, was never judgmental and never considered telling anything but the truth, they said.
Ms. Blowes is survived by her husband, Richard; and three sons, Daryl and wife Noel of East Quogue, Devin and wife Megan of Virginia, and Dustin of New Jersey. She is also survived by her seven grandchildren, Gabe, Lana, Aurora, Chloe, Juliet, Wyatt and Ryker. In addition, she is survived by her two stepsisters, Vallory and Sharon; and stepbrother, Joseph Flynn; and more than 50 nieces and nephews.
Memorial donations may be made to the Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation or the Stony Brook Southampton Hospital building fund.
