Marlyse Silverberg, long-time Bay Point resident, died peacefully in her sleep on July 8. She was 93.
Ms. Silverberg was born in Mannheim, Germany on August 14, 1927. After fleeing Germany, first to Belgium, then to France, Ms. Silverberg and her family were briefly interred in Gurs Concentration Camp. They later found refuge in the Huguenot village of Vabre in the French countryside. She immigrated to America in 1948, settling in New York City, where she raised a family and worked as a secretary at the Ethical Culture Fieldston School.
Ms. Silverberg retired to Sag Harbor with her husband Edmond Silverberg in the late 1990s. She was an active member of Temple Adas Israel and a much loved volunteer at the Sag Harbor Food Pantry. She was known for her daily walks on Long Beach in any weather, her cooking and warm hospitality.
Ms. Silverberg was the beloved spouse of Edmond Silverberg, loving mother of Jacqueline Marks and Robert Silverberg and devoted grandmother of Michele Marks and Nina Silverberg.
