Mauro Poveromo, 85, of Sagaponack Dies March 28

Longtime Sagaponack resident Mauro Poveromo died on Saturday, March 28, 2020.

Mr. Poveromo was born in New York City to Domenico and Francesca Piccinnini Poveromo in 1934. He was educated in the New York City public schools and inducted into the United States armed forces in 1956. He served as a Radio Relay and Carrier Operator in the U.S. Army’s Signal Corps at Fort Huachuca, Arizona.

Upon discharge, Mr. Poveromo moved to Los Angeles, where he worked in the music industry for RCA and TomCat Records, and as the longtime driver to Neil Diamond. Upon retirement, he returned to New York.

Mr. Poveromo was proud of his more than 30 years sobriety as a member of the East Hampton Keep It Simple AA group.

He enjoyed everything on the menu at the Pizza Place in Bridgehampton.

At the end of his life, Mr. Poveromo was a resident of The Villa at Westhampton, and the Westhampton Care Center, and was grateful to the loving staff at both facilities.

Mr. Poveromo is survived by cousins Theresa Jarvis of Lawrenceville, Georgia, Carmen D’Eredita of Solvay, New York, and Maryann Leahy of Milford, Connecticut; his loving neighbors Song-A Cho and Christopher Shaughnessy and their children; and his cousins and caregivers Anthony and Ruth D’Eredita, and their children Juliana, Anthony William, and Matthew of Vienna, Virginia.

Burial will be in the Poveromo family plot at the Calvary Cemetery in Queens.
