Despite being approved for an $8,000 salary increase last month, Miranda Weber, the assistant to Southampton Village Mayor Jesse Warren, announced her resignation last week.

April 26 was the last day on the job for Weber, who has served as the assistant to Warren since November 12, 2020. She earned a salary of $88,000, with the $8,000 raise specifically earmarked for her duties monitoring and dealing with issues reported on the village’s See-Click-Fix app.

The resignation of Weber, 26, was accepted by the Village Board at its work session on Tuesday night. She said she had given “appropriate notice.”

Weber declined to share the details of where she was moving on to, aside from saying that “new exciting opportunities presented themselves,” but said she was leaving “on good terms,” and had offered to assist with the transition process. She added that she would also possibly continue to help shepherd several projects she’d been working on, while balancing the responsibilities of her new job.

“It has been an honor to serve the Village of Southampton, and I would love to remain connected to my work here by staying on to consult and assist in any way with some of the great projects I have been fortunate to be involved with,” she said.

Warren issued her a proclamation at Tuesday night’s work session, praising her for her work ethic and positive attitude.

“It’s impossible to replace her,” he said. “We’re extraordinarily indebted to Miranda for her service to the village.”

There was quite the political explosion last week about the first-in-the-nation congestion pricing program that took effect in Manhattan last month, including comments from Suffolk County, although many miles away. The administration of President Donald Trump last week rescinded what had been federal approval of the program. U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy scored the plan’s fee for drivers entering Manhattan south of 60th Street, which includes $9 for operators of cars on weekdays from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m., $2.25 overnight, and higher for trucks. Duffy called that a “slap in the face to working-class Americans and small-business owners.” (It ... by Karl Grossman
