We live near the gas station development in Westwoods. We read with disbelief Joe Shaw’s Q&A with Lance Gumbs [“Q&A: Lance Gumbs Says Agreement With State for Highway Access Would Benefit Everyone,” 27east.com, November 22], in which Mr. Gumbs states, with respect to the February clearing of Westwoods, “There was absolutely no clearing that started in the middle of the night.”
There absolutely was clearing in the middle of the night, as we heard ourselves, and as attested to by many of my neighbors. Furthermore, at the Hampton Bays Civic Association meeting in July, Shinnecock Chairwoman Lisa Goree and Shinnecock Council of Trustees Secretary Bianca Collins both confirmed that, indeed, the clearing of Westwoods took place in the middle of the night.
On Channel 2 news, Lance said every residential neighborhood has gas stations. That is such a misrepresentation of the major 30-plus-pump travel plaza being built.
Seems the neighborhood’s level of mistrust is justified.
