Monica M. Brennan of Montauk died on October 4 in Mountain Lake, New Jersey. She was 81.
Born on October 18, 1932 to John and Elizabeth (Dukarm) Hausler, in the Bronx, she earned a medical technology degree at St. John’s University. She lived in Rockland County for 20 years, raising her seven children before moving to Montauk in 1978 when she purchased the Blue Haven Motel, which she owned and operated for 12 years.
Survivors said she loved opera, dance, traveling and gardening. She was very active her entire life, caring for and supporting her family. She traveled extensively in her later years, taking hikes on her travels, an activity she also enjoyed in her hometown.
A strong supporter of the Montauk community, where she lived for 36 years, she had been vice president of the Friends of the Montauk Library, where she was dedicated to coordinating library programs and activities and volunteered for the annual book fair. She was secretary for the East Hampton Trails Preservation Society, an active member of AARP and often talked about her tai chi group and the friends she made there.
Predeceased by her husband, Thomas, in 1993, she is survived by seven children, Steven Brennan and wife Anna, Kathleen Denigris and husband Peter, Elizabeth LoBiono and husband Leonard, Jeanne Torrenzano and husband Jay, Thomas Brennan and wife Michelle, Monica Alfonzetti and husband John, and Mary Ellen Kim and husband Jim. She is also survived by 19 grandchildren, Liam, Heather and Connor Donovan, Michael, Leonard Jr., John and Nicholas, Kaitlin, Jake and Christopher, Mikail and Thomasin, Michael, John, Matthew and Joseph, and Griffin, James and Jordan; and five nieces and nephews.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Yardley and Pino Funeral Home in East Hampton. A funeral took place on October 9 at St. Therese of Lisieux Church in Montauk, followed by burial at Fort Hill Cemetery.
