There will be closures and detours on westbound Sunrise Highway in the Hampton Bays and Shinnecock Hills area during the overnight hours for three weeks as the State Department of Transportation performs maintenance on the Peconic Road bridge.

Westbound traffic will be detoured onto North Road for approximately one mile before returning to Sunrise Highway. Eastbound lanes will remain open.

Northbound Peconic Road will be closed as well, and traffic will be detoured onto Longview Road for about one mile to Hill Station Road to Sunrise Highway and onto North Road for approximately a half mile before returning to Peconic Road. Southbound lanes will remain open.

Weather permitting, the detours will be in place between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m., Sunday to Thursday, for the three-week period, which began May 1.

Electronic signs are placed nearby to relay additional closure details. The Department of Transportation urges motorists to plan accordingly and drive responsibly in work zones.
