Patricia Ann McLaughlin (61) passed away peacefully on July 18th, 2023, in her home with her husband, Joseph McLaughlin, lovingly by her side after a long battle with COPD.

Born December 31, 1961, Patricia was the youngest sister, adored by her five siblings (Catherine O’Brien, Harold Speth, Mary Mannino, Daniel Speth and John Speth), later becoming a devoted mother to her three children (Michael McLaughlin, Joseph McLaughlin, and Kandice McLaughlin), and then affectionate grandmother to her six grandchildren (Charlie Enne, Theo Enne, Joseph McLaughlin, Jameson McLaughlin, Ronan Futrell, and Sienna Futrell).

Throughout her life, Patricia cultivated many profound friendships and became a well-loved member of her community. She will be remembered for all the hearts she touched and the good times she shared. Her memory will endure in the minds of those who she cherished, and those who cherished her.

Despite her failing health, Patricia’s indomitable spirit and tenacious personality showed us the true meaning of resilience and perseverance. There was no quit in Patricia; her battle was not lost. Instead, her peace was hard fought and won.

In accordance with Patricia’s wishes, her cremation will be followed by a ceremonial mass service scheduled for 10AM on July 29, 2023, at the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary in Southampton, NY. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude’s Childrens Hospital, an organization Patricia was passionate about.

The ants come out of the tub drain like they do every summer. I know why this happens, and it does not alarm me. The colony parades across the porcelain swath, up the 90-degree incline of the basin and over the edge. Those with wings make for the window that’s open with its screen removed. The wingless descend to the floor: a crack in the grout, the entrance to a tunnel that takes them to the cinder block “freeway” beneath my house.
