I want to take this opportunity to address the recent article concerning our superintendent and assistant superintendent [“Tuckahoe School Parents Outraged Over Superintendent’s Joker Halloween Costume,” 27east.com, November 6]. The views and statements presented in the letter labeled as from the PTO and published in The Southampton Press do not reflect the views or intentions of our organization.
This letter was drafted and sent to the Board of Trustees by two individuals on the PTO Board without the knowledge or consent of the full board. No other board members were given the opportunity to review or approve it, and no one else signed their names.
It is deeply disappointing that the PTO’s voice, representing our entire parent community, was used in this way. We firmly believe that any parent who has a personal issue should stand behind their own words rather than speaking through an organization meant to represent all.
I can assure you that I have addressed this matter internally in a prompt and professional manner.
Our PTO fully supports Len Skuggevik, Doreen Buckley, our teachers, staff, and students. Our mission has always been, and remains, to enhance the educational, social and recreational needs of all students, and we are committed to that goal. We are grateful to the dedicated parent and teacher volunteers who devote countless hours to making Tuckahoe a wonderful place to learn.
We apologize to the Tuckahoe community, and especially to Mr. Skuggevik and Mrs. Buckley, for the confusion and distraction caused by the actions of a few individuals who chose to use the PTO’s voice as their own.
We stand united in our love and support for Tuckahoe.
