Richard Albert Highland of Riverhead died on Friday, June 6. He was 77.
Mr. Highland was born on May 23, 1937, in Patchogue, the son of Marine Highland and Anna Aldrich Highland, both of whom predeceased him. He served in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1959.
An avid camper, he developed a wide circle of friends through camping clubs and activities. By and large, he was committed to providing happiness to his family and always placed them first, survivors said.
Mr. Highland is survived by his wife, Saundra Highland; three children, Dr. Richard A. Highland Jr., Debra Grosso and husband Richard, and Denise Walker. He is also survived by a grandson, Clay Adam Wade Jr.; and a sister, Katherine Chick.
The family received friends on June 8 at Follett and Werner Funeral Home in Westhampton Beach. A funeral service was held on June 9 at the funeral home, with the Reverend Thompson Gee officiating. Interment took place in Calverton National Cemetery.
