Robert “Bob” Bosselman, born June 23, 1940, left us on April 3, 2023. Bob lived a long and full life, and touched many hearts as a kind, caring and gentle soul. A loving husband to Rita for 50 years, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, he was a loyal and wonderful friend with a great zest for life and a true appreciation for all it offered. Bob will always be remembered for his infectious smile, great sense of humor and affectionate hugs. He was “truly one of a kind, larger than life!”

Bob was born in Brooklyn NY, son of Madeline and Alfred Bosselman, where he and his siblings spent their childhood until they moved to Hampton Bays NY in 1956. He met the love of his life, Rita in 1968, and they went on to marry in 1972. Bob and Rita lived 30 fulfilling years in Hampton Bays where they raised their children and developed many lasting friendships.

In his early years, he was proud of his work at The New York Stock Exchange and New York Telephone Company. He went on to have an accomplished career of 36 years with the Long Island Railroad as a Station Agent and Public Relations Speaker, retiring in 1996. Bob was a very driven and successful professional developing his owns businesses as a travel agent and income tax preparer, both which he continued until his passing.

As a very active member of the community, Bob held many positions in service organizations and clubs. For several years he was Treasurer of the Southampton Town Conservative Party. Additionally, he was Chaplain for the Southampton Lodge of the BPO Elks. His greatest allegiance was to the Southampton Kiwanis Club, where he held multiple terms as president, later becoming Lieutenant Governor of Kiwanis’ Suffolk East Division, NY District.

Rita and Bob fell in love with Bluffton, SC and moved to The Crescent in 2002. He continued to give his time and dedication to many by serving on the Crescent POA Board as Social Director and Event Planner. He also organized Crescent Pointe’s Friday Night Couples Golf and Dinner League. Bob also served as a board member of the Hilton Head Senior Men’s Golf Association (SMGA), and was honored to be a “greeter” with Rita at their church, St. Gregory the Great R.C. for 20 years.

Bob loved playing golf and traveling the world with Rita. He proudly maintained his memberships at both Southampton Golf Club and the Crescent Pointe Golf Club. Rita and Bob traveled the world extensively, their last trip being his favorite to The Holy Land.

Bob is survived by his wife, Rita. Children, Sharon Celi (Gregory), Kevin Springer (Andrea), Tammy Stehlik (Scott), Rob Bosselman, Christopher Bosselman (Cynthia), Lee Ann Newins and Nancy Dickerson (Kevin). He is also survived by his sisters, Janet Bosselman and Karen Rubenstein, and sister-in-law, Margaret Bosselman.

Bob had 16 grandchildren, Kirsten Rousell (Kevin), Noelle Summers (Alex), Thomas Peyton III, Seth Peyton, Michael Gambino, Kylie Springer, Reese Springer, Jesse Bosselman, Griffin Schwab, Noah Schwab, Avery Schwab, Christopher Bosselman, Melissa Martinez (Jose), Sean Bosselman, Holly Beth Malinowski (Zachary) and Shannon Sherman. He was also blessed to have 17 great-grandchildren.

Bob was predeceased by his parents, Madeline and Alfred Bosselman, as well has his brother, Paul Bosselman, son, Thomas Bosselman (son) and great-grandson, Christopher Kenneth Bosselman (CK).

Bob loved his family most but will be remembered eternally in spirit by all who knew and loved him.

Gathering Facts

Bob Giuffra is undoubtedly one of the country’s most accomplished litigators. He is also the chair of the Lake Agawam Conservancy and in that capacity wrote an unfortunate and misleading letter last week [“Playing Politics,” Letters, November 27] accusing me of staging a “political ambush” for raising concerns over the village’s review and supposed “approval” of recent plantings along Gin Lane. He further claimed that I pressured the village attorney, an allegation that would be laughable if it were not so recklessly untrue. One would expect a greater regard for facts from an attorney of Mr. Giuffra’s stature before attaching ... by Staff Writer

Joy and Happiness

To the members of our community near and far: We would like to thank everyone who came out to enjoy the Parade of Lights and tree lighting in Agawam Park this past Saturday evening. It was another fantastic experience for Southampton. We are grateful to our fire and EMS departments that participated in the parade, decorating their trucks and vehicles and bringing so much joy and happiness to all those who lined the streets. Thank you to the Voices of Southampton, under the direction of James Tartaglia, for their beautiful singing, and special thanks to the Southampton Fire Department chiefs ... by Staff Writer

Connecting to History

David Rung’s recent letter regarding the proposed Southampton Village Historical Walking Tours [“Wasted Dollars,” Letters, November 20] seems to misunderstand the intent of this initiative. The idea is not to recreate Google Maps or offer a generic navigation tool. Rather, this project envisions self-guided historic walking tours of Southampton Village — particularly within the village business district — designed to celebrate and share our community’s rich history. Southampton has many remarkable stories to tell, from its founding to the many historic landmarks that define our identity today. Many visitors and even some residents are unaware of the depth of that ... 1 Dec 2025 by Staff Writer

Lack of Ethics

The November 25 Southampton Village Board work session delivered yet another reminder of our village’s lack of ethics. There were many cringeworthy moments, but none more uncomfortable than watching Trustee Roy Stevenson forced to read a prepared statement recusing himself because the matter involved his golf buddy and major campaign donor. That donor received a reduction in his taxable assessed value through the settlement of an Article 7 tax grievance. What made the moment even more troubling was that Mayor Bill Manger also came into the meeting with a prepared statement expressing his intention to vote in favor of the ... by Staff Writer
