Robert “Bob” Bosselman, born June 23, 1940, left us on April 3, 2023. Bob lived a long and full life, and touched many hearts as a kind, caring and gentle soul. A loving husband to Rita for 50 years, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, he was a loyal and wonderful friend with a great zest for life and a true appreciation for all it offered. Bob will always be remembered for his infectious smile, great sense of humor and affectionate hugs. He was “truly one of a kind, larger than life!”

Bob was born in Brooklyn NY, son of Madeline and Alfred Bosselman, where he and his siblings spent their childhood until they moved to Hampton Bays NY in 1956. He met the love of his life, Rita in 1968, and they went on to marry in 1972. Bob and Rita lived 30 fulfilling years in Hampton Bays where they raised their children and developed many lasting friendships.

In his early years, he was proud of his work at The New York Stock Exchange and New York Telephone Company. As a very active member of the community, Bob held many positions in service organizations and clubs. For several years he was Treasurer of the Southampton Town Conservative Party. Additionally, he was Chaplain for the Southampton Lodge of the BPO Elks. His greatest allegiance was to the Southampton Kiwanis Club, where he held multiple terms as president, later becoming Lieutenant Governor of Kiwanis’ Suffolk East Division, NY District.

Rita and Bob fell in love with Bluffton, SC and moved to The Crescent in 2002. He continued to give his time and dedication to many by serving on the Crescent POA Board as Social Director and Event Planner. He also organized Crescent Pointe’s Friday Night Couples Golf and Dinner League. Bob also served as a board member of the Hilton Head Senior Men’s Golf Association (SMGA), and was honored to be a “greeter” with Rita at their church, St. Gregory the Great R.C. for 20 years.

Bob loved playing golf and traveling the world with Rita. He proudly maintained his memberships at both Southampton Golf Club and the Crescent Pointe Golf Club. Rita and Bob traveled the world extensively, their last trip being his favorite to The Holy Land.

Bob is survived by his wife, Rita. ⭐️ : To Cami Hatch, for reminding everyone why learning to swim and lifeguard training are important. The East Hampton graduate, now a University of Tennessee student, has been studying in Italy and was visiting Malta recently when she heard a fellow beachgoer whistling. “That whistle unlocked a new mode in my brain. For lifeguards, when you hear a whistle it means, ‘Heads up — get ready to go,’ as Big John and Johnny Ryan have instilled in us over the years,” she said, shouting out her lifeguard instructors. And that relationship spread west as the settlers did. During the war, the Stockbridge Mohicans, along with the Oneida, Tuscarora and a handful of other Indigenous nations, allied with the American colonists in their struggle for independence from Britain. Many of these communities hoped that their military support would ensure recognition of their sovereignty and protection of their lands. Instead, ... by Tom Clavin

Will Governor Kathy Hochul sign, or again veto, a bill to protect horseshoe crabs that again passed by large majorities in the State Legislature earlier this year? Hochul vetoed the same bill last year. She claimed then that the Horseshoe Crab Protection Act was “well intentioned,” but their management should best be left with the state’s Department of Environmental Conservation. She said the DEC has “significant rules and regulations regarding commercial and recreational fishing in the state.” It currently has an annual quota of 150,000 horseshoe crabs that can be taken. Environmentalists have been actively calling on Hochul to sign ... by Karl Grossman
